Following on from FY 2006, in FY 2007 too the Kobelco Construction Machinery Group gave assistance with educational expenses and lunch charges for pupils attending this elementary school. The pupils receiving the assistance were ones with particularly severe economic handicaps – though when we visited them we found them in such lively spirits that such a background seemed hardly to be there. Building on those activities, the company has carried out a variety of further activities including study tours of its plants, provision of a library, and presenting gifts of New Year's Eve goods. |

In 2007 the scholarships were once again awarded to outstanding students who had passed stringent examinations. The university organized a ceremony for the awards, and a discussion session was held afterward at which the students talked about their sentiments toward the Kobelco Scholarships and energetically posed questions about Japanese enterprises. Chengdu Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. has also implemented other activities ranging widely from a Japanese speech contest to an oden (Japanese hotchpotch) event |

Continuing on from the previous fiscal year, in FY 2007 too we gave assistance for purchase of drinking water supply equipment, children's beds, musical instruments and so forth for an orphanage in the Philippines. Many photographs showing the children merrily making use of these articles were sent over, occasioning much gladness in all those involved in the activities.

Sympathizing with the call for "restoration of Cambodia's historical remains by Cambodians and for Cambodians", we provided assistance for the human resource cultivation being carried out by the Sophia University Angkor International Mission to equip Cambodians to engage in the restoration of Angkor Wat.

Iwami Kagura (Shinto music and dancing) that is a tradition in the Iwami district of western Shimane Prefecture is believed to have its origin in medieval times. It is characterized by a faithful preservation of dance forms and postures, retaining even today the ancestral traditions in all their rich color, without having been swept away by modern vogues. Some of the employees of Kobelco Construction Machinery (Nishinihon) Co., Ltd. belong to the group that practices this Shinto music and dancing, and have received assistance from the CSR Fund for purchase of the theatrical masks and gasso wigs required. |

In collaboration with Team Seabreeze, to which some of its employees belong, Kobelco Construction Machinery (Kyushu) Co., Ltd. has conducted river cleanups, taken part in patrol and rescue activities at various events on water, and held personal watercraft experiencing events together with neighborhood residents. It was hard work for the employees to do the preparations for the events alongside their jobs. But the participants, old and young, were all pleased by their efforts. That was the main thing, and has been a source of inspiration for us.

Run by NPO Hiyashinsu in Kobe, "Café Potato" was established with the purpose of promoting social participation by the disabled. The Kobelco Construction Machinery Group supports Café Potato on an ongoing basis and recently has in addition started to run from the café a meals-on-wheels service primarily for elderly people living alone. The service involves not only delivery but also greeting and chatting with the recipients, thereby providing contact points linking local people together. |

●Donating an AED to the Shinagawa Council of Social Welfare
In March 2008 we donated AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators) to the Shinagawa Council of Social Welfare and two of its Socializing Workshops. No AED had previously been installed at the Council, even though it is visited by large numbers of the public. Neither were any installed at the Socializing Workshops, despite the fact that they are frequented by the disabled and that AED courses are held there periodically as a precaution for emergencies. Thus we felt a necessity for such equipment in both cases.
The Kobelco Construction Machinery Group is proceeding with installation of AEDs at its bases all over Japan and thus is aware of the efficacy and importance of AEDs. This formed the background to the desire to assist the above facilities with donations of AEDs.

| ●Installation of AEDs by the Kobelco Construction Machinery Group |
The Kobelco Construction Machinery Group is moving ahead with installation of AEDs at its bases across the nation in order to assure safety for its employees, concerned persons and surrounding area residents. It also trains its employees in life-saving skills that include AED operation. Currently these devices are installed at eight locations. It is planned to install them at a further eight bases during FY 2008. |
